Shortly after WWII, a United Nations treaty was signed in Quebec city. In this treaty, Canada agreed to provide food to people throughout the world.In 1995, this statue was erected to commemorate the 50 year anniversary of that treaty. While she is holding food and grain, it also celebrates Quebec City as the shipping port which would be used to deliver the food. It looks like the bow of a ship with waves at the base. The waves signify the place in the old city where the water would come to at high tide, which is why Quebec City is built high above the water. Since then, the land has been filled in so that there is plenty of room between this beautiful statue and the water.
